6. The ExEA has presented the implementation of a project for upgrade the geoinformation system for water management

At a final conference, held on 20th November 2017, the Executive Environment Agency presented the results of the implementation of a project to upgrade the geoinformation system for water management. The project upgrades with new modules the Information system for integrated management of water resources in Bulgaria, which was built in 2012. The activities are carried out by Technology EAD.

The system provides the administration of geographic data sets related to water management and water protection areas. It also contains a public section from which citizens can get information on the state of the country's waters. It will support the MoEW structures in fulfilling their water management obligations and reporting to the European Commission and international institutions.

"The implementation of the project has created a unified water management information system to support the development of river basin management plans," said Rosalina Indzieva, Deputy Project Manager. The improved information system will facilitate the work of experts in Basin Directorates, water management decisions and reporting to the European Commission, communication and exchange of data between national water management institutions. Last but not least, it will present in an interactive way information to those interested in the subject, also added Indjeeva.

The project BG02.PDP1 ”Updating the geo-information system for water management and reporting” is funded by the BG02 Program "Integrated Marine and Inland Water Management" through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2009-2014. It will be completed by 23 December 2017.
