Information Center

The Information center at the Executive Environment Agency was opened at the end of January 2004.

The conception for establishment of the Center is developed within a project “Ecological information, education and public awareness”, financed by the Japanese special fund and implemented by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and East Europe – Bulgaria.

The project was initiated by the EEA under MOEW, as part of the process for establishing the National Information Centers network .

The Information center was set up with funds from the Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities ( EMEPA).

The Center is equipped with a full set of up - to- date technological devices which gives the possibility to organize seminars, trainings, round tables and business meetings. The Center disposes with a computer hall thus ensuring free access of citizens to current and systematic information on:


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • European Union Legislation;
  • Ecological information on international institutions;
  • National and international programs which grant funds to non-government organizations for implementation of ecological projects ;
  • International programs for specializations, trainings \ qualifications of environment;
  • International programs financing scientific researches;
  • Presentations of activities of the European Topic Centers: “Air and climate change”, “Water”, “Land environment”, “Nature”, “Waste and material flows” etc.;
  • Data for Protected Area;
  • Reports developed under different environmental projects.


In the Information center citizens can look through:

Data on the National Automated Air Quality Control System in Real Time which include 15 automatic stations, comprising the whole country territory. The information is collected hourly from all stations and is stored in the integrated data base in EEA.

Data on the National Automated Radiological Gamma- Background System for constant control of the country, which includes 26 local monitoring stations for radiological gama-background. There is larger density of monitoring stations. around “Kozloduy” NPP

 

Library

The Library at the Information Centre stores the following materials:

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Specialized literature in the field of environmental protection;
  • Standards and methods(national, of particular countries and international) in the field of environment;
  • Scientific Researches
  • Information materials received through international exchange – EEA, REC, UNEP, UN, WHO etc.;
  • National legislation in the field of environmental protection

Annual bulletins for the state of environment in Bulgaria; 3 month Quarterly bulletins for the state of environment in Bulgaria; Annual report for the state of environment in Bulgaria (Green book);

  • Issues of the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Executive Environment Agency:
  • Conventions and Agreements on problems connected with environmental protection with Bulgarian participation (MoEW);
  • Legislation of EU and USA with regard to the prevention of environment;
  • Economic problems of environmental prevention.

Variety of scientific video films designed for education of children, pupils and students are available at the Information center. The Center activities are directed to provide broad access to information on the state of environment and effective use of natural resources
